Coating thickness gauge calibration method

 

There are three methods for calibrating a coating thickness gauge: zero calibration, two-point calibration, and calibration on a sandblasted surface. The two-point calibration method is divided into a test piece method and a second test piece method. There is also a basic calibration for the probe.

 

Zero calibration

 

a) Make a measurement on the substrate and the screen displays <×.×m>.

 

b) Press ZERO and the screen displays <0.0>. The calibration is complete and you can start measuring.

 

c) Repeat steps a and b above to obtain a more accurate zero. Measurements can be taken after the zero calibration is completed.

 

2. Two-point calibration

 

1 test piece method

 

This calibration method is suitable for high precision measurement and small workpieces, hardened steel, alloy steel.

 

a) First zero point (as above).

 

b) Perform a measurement on a standard sheet having a thickness approximately equal to the expected thickness of the coating to be tested, and the screen displays <×××m>.

 

c) Correct the reading with the key to the standard value. The calibration is complete and you can start measuring.

 

2 test strip method

 

The thickness of the two standard sheets is at least three times different. The thickness of the overlay to be tested should be between two calibration values. This method is especially suitable for rough sandblasting surfaces and high precision measurements.

 

a) First zero value.

 

b) Make a measurement on a thin standard sheet and correct the reading with the key to the standard value.

 

c) A measurement is then taken on a thick sample and the reading is corrected with a key to bring it to the standard value. The calibration is complete and you can start measuring.
