The reason why the coating thickness gauge affects the measurement accuracy

The coating thickness gauge can non-destructively measure the thickness of non-magnetic coatings on magnetic metal substrates (such as steel, iron, alloys and hard magnetic steel) (such as aluminum, chromium, copper, tantalum, rubber, paint, etc.) and non-magnetic The thickness of a non-conductive coating on a metal substrate (such as copper, aluminum, zinc, tin, etc.) (eg, tantalum, rubber, paint, plastic, etc.).

The reasons why the coating thickness gauge affects the measurement accuracy are as follows:

(1) When the thickness of the cover layer is greater than 25 μm, the error is approximately proportional to the thickness of the cover layer;

(2) The conductivity of the base metal has an influence on the measurement, which is related to the composition of the base metal material and the heat treatment method;

(3) Any thickness gauge requires a critical thickness of the base metal. Only if it is larger than this thickness, the measurement is not affected by the thickness of the base metal;

(4) The eddy current thickness gauge has an edge effect on the pattern measurement, that is, the measurement near the edge of the pattern or the inner corner is unreliable.

(5) The curvature of the sample has an influence on the measurement, and this effect will increase significantly as the radius of curvature decreases;

(6) The surface roughness of the base metal and the cover layer affects the accuracy of the measurement, the roughness increases, and the influence increases;

(7) The eddy current thickness gauge is sensitive to the adhering substances that hinder the contact between the probe and the surface of the cover layer. Therefore, the dirt on the surface of the probe and the cover layer should be removed before the measurement; the probe should be tested and tested.
